What this policy covers

This policy explains what information Mushroom Identifier collects, how it is used, and your rights in relation to it. We have written it to be as clear and straightforward as possible.

What we collect and why

Photos you submit for identification

When you photograph or upload an image for identification, that image is sent to our backend service for processing. The image is analysed by an AI model to identify the mushroom and generate the result you see on screen.

We do not store your photos. Images are processed in real time and discarded immediately after the result is generated. They are never saved to our servers, associated with your identity, or used for any other purpose.

Community sightings

If you choose to share a result to the Community Sightings feed, the mushroom photo and identification details are stored and displayed publicly within the app. This is entirely optional and opt-in.

Community sightings are posted anonymously. We assign you a randomly generated identifier — no name, email address, or personal detail is ever attached to a sighting. You can remove your sighting at any time from the results screen.

Crash and error reports

If the app crashes or encounters an error, basic diagnostic information is sent to our crash reporting service. This includes the type of error, which part of the app it occurred in, and your device model and operating system version. No personal data or images are included in these reports.

This data is used solely to identify and fix bugs, and to improve the stability of the app.

Advertising

Mushroom Identifier is ad-supported. Ads are served by Google AdMob. Before showing personalised ads, the app will ask for your consent in line with UK GDPR requirements. You may decline, in which case non-personalised ads will be shown instead.

Google may collect certain technical identifiers in connection with ad delivery. You can review Google's privacy practices at policies.google.com/privacy.

Your consent choice can be reset at any time from the app settings.

Identification history

Your past identifications are stored locally on your device only. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us. You can clear your history at any time from within the app.

What we do not collect

We do not collect:

  • Your name, email address, or any contact details
  • Your location or GPS data
  • Any information about other apps on your device
  • Payment information

No account or registration is required to use Mushroom Identifier.
