Privacy Policy — Bug Identifier By Picture
Last updated: 4 May 2026
Overview
Bug Identifier By Picture ("we", "our", "the app") is developed and operated by Apposite Labs Ltd. The app uses artificial intelligence to identify insects and bugs from photos. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect and how it is used.
Data We Collect
Photos
Photos you take or select are sent to our secure server solely to perform bug identification. They are not stored on our servers after processing.
Anonymous Usage Data
When you use the app, an anonymous identifier is automatically created for your device. This is used to save your scan history locally, track your daily usage allowance, and optionally post anonymous sightings to our community feed (The Hive). This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any personal information.
Community Sightings
If you choose to share a sighting to The Hive, the bug name, threat level, and a short description are posted publicly alongside your anonymous identifier. No photo, location, or personal data is ever shared.
Advertising Data
The free version of the app displays ads provided by Google AdMob. Google may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve relevant ads. On iOS, you will be asked for permission before any personalised advertising data is collected (App Tracking Transparency). You may opt out at any time in your device Settings.
Purchase Data
Subscription purchases are processed by Apple and managed via RevenueCat. We do not store or have access to your payment details.
Data We Do Not Collect
- Your name, email address, or any account information
- Your precise or approximate location
- Your contacts, calendar, or any other device data
- Photos beyond the single image submitted for identification
Third-Party Services
The app uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Google AdMob — advertising
- Google Firebase — anonymous authentication and community data storage
- Google Gemini — AI image processing (via our secure server)
- RevenueCat — subscription management
- Apple App Store — payment processing
Data Retention
Your scan history is stored locally on your device and can be deleted at any time from within the app. Community sightings posted to The Hive are stored on our servers and can be removed upon request.
Children
This app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your Rights
You may request deletion of any community data associated with your anonymous identifier by contacting us. Since we do not collect personal information, we are unable to identify you by name or email — requests should include your anonymous user ID shown in the app if applicable.

Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
